Personal Story.
My name is Leonard Skuro and I am an artist born and raised in Los Angeles. I was educated through our local schools and finished with a graduate degree (MFA in ceramics) in the studio arts at UCLA. I have been a working artist and teacher since 1976.
Teaching over the last 30+ years has allowed me to share my skills and passion for ceramics with the community at many local Los Angeles colleges including Pepperdine, UCLA and California State University at Northridge.
The necessity to have a personal studio space created the opportunity for myself and Marvin Zeidler to begin our relationship and the creation of the Santa Fe Art Colony, a large-scale low-income housing project for artists. Together, we developed and managed the Santa Fe Art Colony from the mid 1980’s through 2018.
My unique position of artist and builder give me a compassionate understanding of the needs and demands of the community. Today, I am still involved in the Artist Loft Community in Downtown Los Angeles, and the founder of an art project called Hunter Street, a 6-unit live-work artist building.
